The EME-NEND® batch charger – the principle

The EME-NEND® batch charger is the first important development in batch charging to be introduced for more than 25 years.

The machine uses multiple (typically 2 or 3) screw feeders to transport the batch into the doghouse, where it is moved towards
the furnace by a pusher arm. The use of multiple feeders gives a greater number of smaller batch piles, which leads to an
increase in the surface-to-volume ratio – an important factor in determining the speed of melting of the batch.

The screw feeders are provided with individual control so that amount of batch fed to each side of the doghouse can be varied without the need to move the machine. It is therefore possible to provide the doghouse with a simple but very effective seal. The seal prevents the uncontrolled ingress of air through the doghouse and reduced both internal and external dusting.
