Forehearth control is still primitive, especially considering the job to be done (typically temperature reduction of 15 %, temperature stability better than ± 0,05 % over a time period of several days and temperature differences of less than 1 % - all figures given in absolute terms. Despite numerous attempts that go back at least 15 years, there has been no widespread move to introduce more complex control systems.

The paper will be looking at some of the reasons for this, and suggesting ways in which forehearth control might be improved.
