Nanjing Electric Technology Group Co., Ltd., one of China’s leading manufacturers of high-voltage glass insulators, has commissioned its fourth melting furnace from SORG, further strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
High-voltage insulators require exceptional thermal shock resistance, high tensile strength and flawless chemical homogeneity. To achieve this, the glass must be free from bubbles and inclusions, critical factors when producing articles weighing up to 13 kg. These stringent requirements place significant demands on the melting process, which SORG furnaces are designed to meet.
SORG has previously supplied Nanjing Electric with two fully electric VSM® furnaces and one regenerative end-port furnace. The newly delivered furnace, also a regenerative end-port model, was constructed as a greenfield project and completed within 12 months from contract signing to heat-up.
The furnace offers a 66 m² melting area and is equipped with melting and barrier boosters. Batch is fed via an enlarged doghouse using an EME-NEND® batch charger from EME. Glass conditioning is handled by a SORG® STW distribution channel and two SORG® STF forehearths, both fitted with CONTI DRAIN® systems.
SORG Group staff oversaw the steel and refractory construction, equipment installation, and the heating and filling processes.
SORG expressed its thanks to Nanjing Electric Technology Group for their continued confidence in its technology and extended best wishes for a successful campaign with Furnace 4.
