SORG Group delivers second glass melting furnace to ARGLASS in Valdosta, Georgia, USA

The second SORG furnace at the ARGLASS Valdosta plant is now fully operational! The furnace was commissioned in the fall of 2025, following the first SORG furnace in 2021.

The new furnace is a 151m² Oxi-Melter with glass conditioning system, designed to produce flint soda-lime glass for the manufacture of containers.

The conditioning system consists of a SORG STW distribution channel and four SORG 340S+® forehearths, whereby one forehearth is equipped with feeder coloring, with the later installation of a coloring device prepared in another. The batch is fed via two EME-NEND® R2 batch chargers with controls.

In addition to the design and engineering of the melting furnace, Nikolaus SORG provided the oxygen, gas supplies and heating systems, as well as the complete furnace boosting and software-controlled SCADA system.

As a member of the SORG Group, SKS played an important role in the turnkey project. SKS’s scope of services included the steel fabrication and delivery, the complete steel and refractory construction, as well as the heating up and full melting of the furnace.

The entire installation was a turnkey greenfield project, including cabling and piping, as well as commissioning. The scope of supply and services included engineering, material supplies, equipment and services.

The construction of the furnace and all equipment, heating-up and filling ran smoothly and the teams of ARGLASS and SORG Group made the furnace operation a success.

This second order from ARGLASS reinforces the strength of our partnership and the shared commitment to advanced, energy-efficient glass manufacturing in the U.S. We are proud to deliver another complete, turnkey solution from design to commissioning and look forward to supporting ARGLASS as they continue to grow.
